Day 8: I am now in Houston, Texas, the main objective here is to visit Space Centre Houston. My visit is planned for Wednesday and Thursday so I have a day to explore. There is a museum of science in downtown Houston that is highly recommended by several travel websites. So, I decided to visit that museum today. I was lucky as there were two special events that tickled my curiosity: An exhibition about King Tutankhamun’s tomb and a movie covering black holes. There was also a permanent exhibition covering prehistoric life with lots of skeletons of all sorts of dinosaurs.

The movie about black holes was shown in their planetarium, a huge full-dome theater, but could use an update or two😊 Now I am showing off that I know a little bit about the universe 😂

King’s Tut Tomb was well done, with one section where they recreated the entry and actual tomb as it was found by Howard Carter back in 1922. The second part has many original artifacts that are on a journey across the globe to be exhibited in many museums. There was also a copy of the Rosetta stone (the original is in London) and it was fascinating to read how that was discovered in 1799 and allowed researchers (after 25 years) to translate ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic writing for the first time.

There was also a large section called the Hall of Americas celebrating Indigenous Peoples and Culture, I thought that was very interesting, particularly in the light that Australia just went through a referendum to create a Voice to give Aboriginal people a say on the laws and policies that affect them. If you have a minute read the text on image DSC01662.

The museum is very big (have I mentioned that things are very big in the US 😁) with various exhibitions, ranging from gems and minerals to one about FabergĂ©. You can have a look at a random selection of the images I shot today.

If you wondered what happened to days 6 and 7, well day 6 was Sunday and after 4 days of walking an average of 20,000 steps a day the old feet needed a rest, there was also some laundry that needed to be done and the F1 in Austin Texas was on in the afternoon. Day 7 was the Monday when I traveled from Orlando Florida to Houston Texas.

  1. Hey Arno!
Just reviewed your post and the images you shot. So true everything in the America’s is larger than life! Glad that you had at least one day to recover from all the klms you put on your feet .
The exhibits look interesting, particularly King Tuts Tomb.
Enjoy the Space Centre Houston !

  2. Glad you’re having such a marvelous time!
Anything to do with Tutankhamun’s is so fascinated. Years ago in Sydney one came, I wonder is it the same exhibition?
We didn’t have the entrance to the tomb through – that sounds cool 😎

    1. It was well done! I am looking forward to the Ramses: Gold of the Pharaohs exhibition that is coming to Sydney in November.

  3. Once again amazing to be able to follow the trip looking forward to the next post as this will be the space center one of my bucket list items as wel
