Saturday 1-Mar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After a week delay we are back on the road. What delay you may ask, well on the the day before we were supposed to fly back to Australia, Arno felt very weak and had a few very dark (black) poos. That was reason for some serious concern and we decided warranted a visit to the hospital. There they put Arno in the ICU with a suspected bleeding stomach ulcer. Luckily this happened here with great care available and not somewhere on the Nullarbor. Anyway, after 6 days in hospital Arno was released and good to fly. We had a few extra days with the grand kids which is always nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We pickup our caravan but the extra week away meant that the fridge had used a full gas bottle and was no longer working. We replenished the fridge and started our journey towards Adelaide. We will have to cover 2600 Km in 6 days. That is all doable, just means we won’t be stopping anywhere for more than one night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first stop is Westonia, a lovely council caravan park with very nice spots and a spotless amenities block. And all that for $25. Bargain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday 2-Mar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On to Kalgoorlie, we keep on driving alongside one of the longest water pipelines in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Golden or Goldfields Pipeline, was officially opened at Mount Charlotte, Kalgoorlie, on 24 January 1903, pumping fresh water 566km east from Mundaring Weir to the Eastern Goldfields.

The brainchild of WA’s first Engineer-in-Chief CY O’Connor, the pipeline had a focus on delivering a reliable water supply to the arid Goldfields. It is considered one of Australia’s greatest engineering achievements and was the world’s longest overland pipeline at completion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sad part is that CY passed away 9 months before water was flowing through the pipeline and he never seen his masterpiece in operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Kalgoorlie we visited the Super Pit one of Australia\u2019s largest open pit gold mines, we visited the town and seen where the long pipe line finished. <\/p>\n\n\n

Monday 3-Mar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Back on to the Nullarbor and since we are just ploughing through not much to report over the next few days. Arno played a few more golf holes and when we got in Ceduna picked up his certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday 5-Mar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We stopped in Kimba for the night, this place is known for its 8 meter tall Galah and a beautiful silo art.<\/p>\n\n\n

Thursday 6-Mar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We decided not to drive all the way to the Barossa where we will park the caravan for the weekend while we will be visiting Hobart. Instead we took the ferry from Lucky Bay to Wallarooo on the Spencer gulf ferry. A nice change after putting in so many kilometres in a few days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
