On our way to Janet and Brian: Saturday 21-Sep
We spent another day in Vancouver walking to Granville island from our guest house. We’ve seen this spot from our hop-on-hop-off bus before we went on our cruise and thought that would be a nice to spent the day.
There are lots of restaurants and art shops at this place. We picked up some food to eat outside on the deck for lunch, we were warned about the seagulls that try to steal your food. However, they have found a great solution to keep the seagulls away; there was a lady who walked around with a real hawk on her arm. And it worked, when she was around the seagulls stayed away. (They did grab a persons lunch as soon as the hawk was out of sight 😊).
We took one of those cute little aqua buses closer back to our hotel. This was our 19th wedding anniversary so we had booked a special restaurant to celebrate.
Sunday 22-Sep
On Sunday Janet and Brian picked us up, and we went to see their son, his husband and their adorable little daughter. We had lunch at their place before we took off to see Janet and Brian’s house. They moved here a while ago but we’ve never seen it. Their place is lovely with a very nice garden that backs onto a nature reserve.
Monday 23-Sep
On Monday we went to see some wineries in the Niagara area, we visited Niagara by the Lake first and did 3 very nice wineries while we made our way back to Smithville (where Janet nd Brian live).
Tuesday 24-Sep
Today we will be getting ready for our road trip, some last shopping and we are good to go.
Start of the road trip – 25 Sep
Well we were planning to leave early for Montreal today, this would be a long drive of around 630 Km. But Jen slipped off a kerb yesterday afternoon and this morning her right foot was very painful and swollen. So we set off to the hospital for an X-ray. And as expected, she has a hair fracture in one of her metatarsals. So a moon-boot was fitted and we got her a fold-up walking frame so she can get around.
We left 4 hours later than planned but made it to our very comfortable hotel on time for dinner. The four of us went to a lovey Mexican restaurant. Montreal was just a stop over, we’ve all been here before as well.
Quebec city 26 – 28 Sep
After a good breakfast we made our way to Quebec, it was raining a lot and when we arrived at our hotel around noon it was bucketing. So we looked for an indoor event and found a interesting guided tour through the old gaol (jail) that is now the Morrin culture centre.
The Morrin Centre is a nationally recognised heritage site and leading English-language cultural centre located in the heart of historic Old Quebec City. Built over 200 years ago as one of the city’s first jails, it now houses one of the world’s most beautiful libraries. We walked through foreboding jail cells and browsed the books in the charming Victorian library.
When we got out the tour it stopped raining so we made our way, slowly, to the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. We decided to go into the Fairmont and see if we could get to the bar for a pre-dinner drink, well we waited and waited but after 40 minutes in the queue we gave up. On our way earlier today we saw some very cute restaurants, so we grabbed a taxi and had a lovey dinner. The rain had stopped and the street looked quite beautiful with some very interesting street lamp.
Was je nou niet bij de waterval???
Nee zus, die hebben we al eerder gezien en er is zoveel meer te zien in Canada 😘
