SA 2025, 3-7 Jan

Friday 3-Jan

We took the bikes today for a ride around Arno Bay, the town is tiny with just one supermarket but there is a beautiful mangrove boardwalk. We did the boardwalk (by foot as bikes were not allowed) and enjoyed the scenery and seen lots of little crabs scuttling around.

As our next stop is only 120 Km drive we took our time to pack up and leave. On our way to Port Lincoln we made a stop in Tumby Bay to take some pictures of another silo art. For this one you had to be on a very specific spot to get the best view.

We have booked our next stay in Port Lincoln at the Bayview Park. This is a huge private property on top of a hill just behind Port Lincoln with an amazing view over the bay. You have to be fully self contained so Arno dropped Jen off with a beer a table and a chair and went to fill up the caravans water tanks. We can carry 200 litre of water but try not to do so if we are driving. Jen scored us a lovely spot, sheltered from the wind but with a very good view.

Saturday 4-Jan

Shopping time, Port Lincoln has a big Woolworth so we stocked up for the next week. Jen also did a big wash at the local laundrette and we went back to the caravan with clean sheets, food and some wine 😊.

The afternoon we spent driving around the area and went to visit Coffin bay, that is just 40 Km from here and famous for its oysters. We went into the National Park to see if staying there for a few nights was an option, sadly all the spots are booked out for the next week. We drove back to Coffin Bay as there was a market with lots of craft shops and live music playing. we enjoyed the scenery and had a glass of wine at the local yacht club. We will go back to Coffin Bay as there are some nice walking tracks and we want to do the oyster farm tour.

Sunday 5-Jan

We woke up this morning and the weather has turned on us, it is windy (again) and we had some rain. Not that that would stop us for the day! We are heading back to Coffin Bay for our oyster farm tour. Wearing waterproof waders, we wade out into the water, and sit at their semi submerged tour deck ‘The Salt Water Pavilion’ which is located right in a working commercial Oyster farm. While our feet dangle in the water, we listen to our guide about how oysters grow, a bit of history of Coffin Bay and Matthew Flinders as well as learn about Oyster farming practices. We also learn a new skill, with their hands-on chucking lesson, so now we know how to open oysters ourselves like a pro. What we didn’t realise is that our tour included oysters, not a few but two dozen of them. That was even a lot for Arno so we shared them around with other people on the tour.

Monday 6-Jan

Today we’re getting another X-ray done on Jen’s foot to see how the break is healing. Fingers crossed this is all good. For now Arno has disassembled the knee scooter so this can go in the roof box and clear up some space on the back seat. But we just keep it for now.

Arno went for a game of golf at the Port Lincoln golf club. A great 18 hole golf course with some very long fairways and tempting bunkers around. Jen had a shopping day in Port Lincoln as she had to find a new pump for her inflatable SUP.

We also had a look at Port Lincoln, sitting on Boston Bay – the largest natural harbour in Australia – its mostly famous for seafood, pristine beaches and abundant wildlife. The big eye catcher is the very large grain terminal and the silos to contain all the grain before its get loaded on ships. There is also some street art around that we always like to see.

Tuesday 7-Jan

We went back to Coffin Bay to do some of the Oyster walk and have dinner at Oyster HQ. It was still windy but the temperature was nice and the views amazing. The food was not the best we had, it is sad as this is a great spot with the most amazing view and could be just a drawcard for the area.

Tomorrow we will move on to our next destination: Elliston SA.
