Monday 16 March
A beautiful day, and thus time to see some sites around the Gulgong area. We drove to the closest National Park – Goulburn River NP, to do the 1.5-hour roundtrip hike to ‘The Drip’. It was a good bushwalk, and the recent rain really made the whole area lovely and green, and the small Goulburn river flowed fast. There was however a huge number of flies. Think we can blame their presence on the drought followed by the recent heavy rainfalls.
We then drove on a little further for a short bushwalk to the aboriginal rock art “Hands on Rock”. Old old old…. apparently done by the Wiradjuri people back in the day, using their hands (or other items) as stencils, and blowing a mixture of ochre and water from the mouth.
We decided that given the forecast for great weather, our comfortable site at a reasonably priced campsite/caravan park, various things to do around this area, we’ll stay for 4 nights altogether.
The little town has various museums and historic sites, and we are close to Mudgee where we also intend to visit.
We are not too far from our next stop where we will head on Thursday. If COVID-19 doesn’t force our friends to change their travel plans to Noosa, we will look after their property and dogs for a week.
We are enjoying our time, with some activity during the day, some relaxing, blogging and keeping up with our online lessons (astronomy and bridge respectively).
O wat een prachtige foto’s en ik kende dat verhaal van die handen in die rotswand; bijzonder en mooi dat jullie dat gezien hebben.
Heerlijke natuur, zo wild daar!
Genieten. ….
